Connect the Dots #8: Imagine

On Reshet Bet, Israel's dominant radio station, this morning between 9:30 and 10:00:

1. A 10-15 minute report on today's Likud primary, in which the radio host interviewed a succession of Likud candidates and officials, all outdoing themselves to explain why Benjamin Netanyahu is headed for the prime minister's chair: how the "neighborhood" as he likes to call it needs a tough leader; how (responsible) settlers need a champion; how America needs to persist in the war on terror, and Netanyahu is the man to tell them; and so forth.

2. A short reminder that today's the anniversary of John Lennon's murder, followed by a sentimental tribute, and a play of "Imagine."

3. A 10-minute report about the relatively large number of young people coming back from India, after their stint in the army, and suffering from mental illnesses; the focus of the report was a young man who has been diagnosed as schizophrenic.  "He was fine in the army," his father said, "but after he returned he deteriorated fast; he had tried all manner of mushrooms there, apparently."

Extra credit: Listen to "Imagine" while reading the Likud platform. Then play "Fool on the Hill" and try not to think of that benighted young man.

Frankly, I find this symptomatic for news items in the Israeli media. Hype prone, unconnected, lots gritty stuff mixed with the drop of schmalz.
Question is: what is the alternative in a numbers driven media?

Since the Likud has been in power most of the time since 1977, and the MERETZ party, which is closest to Dr Avishai's "Hebrew Republic" now has 5 out of 120 seats in the Knesset, the people of Israel have time and rejected Dr Avishai's post-Zionist philosophy...so that is why he is desperately trying to find ways of thwarting the Israeli people's will by inviting threats of punitive sanctions and hints of force by outside powers to do what Dr Avishai wants....OR ELSE...
Who really is the fool?
Typical attitude of Israeli "progressives"...they view most of the population as an ignorant rabble whose views can be discounted.

Shrooms aside, and not to make light of the young man's plight, but his dad's statement reminded me of nothing so much as Catch 22.

That Likud platform is from 1999; is it essentially identical with the current one? (Having neither Hebrew nor Russian, I can't read the party's web site.)

The people of Isreal abhor modern day kapos and the notion of a Jew-less state. If that ever came to be I would move back to Chicago!
Incidently someone said at one time that this notion was based on 3rd rate scholastic musings at best.
This is a the platforms of failed academics ! Look at who write this excrement!
